2009 Servathon: make a difference day

More than 200 St. Louis Cares, United Way GenNext members and community volunteers joined us on national Make A Difference Day, Saturday, October 24, for the 5th Annual United Way Servathon.

“It was a picture-perfect afternoon and volunteers really made an impact throughout University City,” said 2009 Servathon Chair Deb Niemeyer. “Volunteers raked leaves and cleared brush from homes of seniors in University City, cleaned up streets and alleys along the Delmar Loop, North Loop, Eastgate Park and Ackert Walkway, and created a pumpkin patch and planted a beautiful garden at University City Children’s Center.”

The City of University City and University City Children’s Center were our project partners this year. We thank Deb for her leadership as well as the members of the hard-working Servathon planning committee who helped make the event such a great success: Meg Brown, Erin Fann, Nicole Fischer, Anna Gettemeier, Sada Lindsey and Becky Ojile.

We also thank the companies that provided in-kind donations and refreshments for Servathon volunteers: Saint Louis Bread Company, Glaceau, Save-A-Lot, Moonrise Hotel, Noodles and Company, Racanelli’s New York Stype Pizza, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Wine Country Gift Baskets Inc., and Anders, Minkler, and Deal.

We salute all of the Servathon volunteers for lending a hand—you made this year’s Servathon the largest in the event’s history. Thank you for supporting our community through the United Way.
