Chronic health conditions can have devastating effects beyond the immediate physical consequences. These conditions may impact the emotional and financial well-being of individuals and families in significant and permanent ways.
We provide specialized supports to help individuals with chronic health conditions, disabilities and mental illnesses live their best lives — lives where employment, enrichment and education are within reach. Through agency support, we remove barriers and help people live independently and productively in their communities.
United Way of Greater St. Louis helps:
- Offer individuals and their families counseling, health education and screenings, substance abuse prevention and recovery programs, in addition to crisis intervention, in-school programming and more.
- Ensure that older adults can continue to play crucial roles in our community while living safe, independent and enriching lives.
- Provide resources to local agencies that support children and adults with developmental disabilities, hearing and vision loss and other physical and sensory challenges.
Defying the Odds
Four-year-old Claire was born with cerebral palsy, came into this world fighting and hasn’t stopped since. Thanks to a United Way funded agency, she has made remarkable progress, both physically and verbally. She’s a true survivor who proves anything is possible.
